The legitimate lending systems I have seen have built in caps. For instance,
a library may be licensing for 12 lends or be licensing for 6 months of one
lend at a time and up to three weeks per lend. After that point, the library
would have to renew with a new license (and another payment) or let the book
go out of stock. Now, this is not actually that bad, and I support it
personally. Then again, in the US, we do not have money returning to the
author and publisher for used book sales and library lends, so this is a
pretty good deal for us. In the UK and other areas that do have such a
lending system, it may not be as workable.
