VAT changes in the UK

Nielsen, the UK equivalent of Bowker, has circulated the following information about VAT in the UK. Note that, while the EU has a common VAT system, rates and application in different countries may vary widely. This information applies only to the UK and dependencies, such as the Channel Islands, Isle of Man and so on.

'... the standard VAT rate will rise on 4 January 2011 from the current rate of 17.5% to 20.0%. Whilst books remain zero-rated, there are many other products in the book supply chain that do attract VAT ...'
