I'd agree that the ability to resell or sell back is a major concern for
college students. However, if the ebook versions cost considerably less than
the print version, this would be less of a concern. If a student paid $30 in
ebook instead of $75 or $150 in print (for some texts)... Well, you buy it
for $100, keep it pristine, sell it back for $50. If you can purchase the
ebook for $30 as a permanent purchase, you're still $20 ahead of the game
print textbooks force you to!
For what it's worth, a different study done a few years ago showed that
college students preferred the ease and convenience of e-texts but didn't
like them because the text book companies were only doing licenses on them
that expired. For students in a course for their major, they may want to
KEEP the textbooks instead of selling them back, and expiring licenses keeps
them from doing so.
