;-) As a great supporter of libraries I think you are right in that. 

I only ask that, when approaching the whole issue of use of copies, that it is remembered there are important differences between the physical versions and the virtual ones.

You may not believe we are also agreed on most matters re DRM, and it is that that has tied the Kindle situation in knots. I think they have made a mistake commercially in in tying themselves to free loans; they just are not a library and have no understanding of its ethos.

Now, I must just add, as a puzzler on both our arguments, that many years ago two of our big High Street chains ran charge-for-loan libraries. The one that also sold books - W H Smith - sold them in-store; the one that sold medecines opened separate libraries.

Incidentally, that was about the time our public libraries were well developed and well stocked.
