Well, no, not really. I may be graceless, but I don't dislike you or what you're trying to do with your award. I just don't have a use for it in its present form. > I value your feedback on the awards we are running and all of it has been very useful. Thank you. The awards you're running appear to be aimed at authors for the purpose of gaining status among other authors. I don't socialize with other authors. I socialize to get AWAY from writing and won't talk shop when I'm off duty. The ONLY sort of award I'd be interested in would be one that would actively involve readers and strongly encourage them to buy my stuff. A fat cash prize would be nice, too. :) > I promise not to pester you but please know that, only if you write me, I'd love to run some ideas for our awards by you to get your impressions. We also want them to be the kind of thing you would participate in as you are representative of other authors and self-publishers. We can't be everything to everyone, but we can certainly address the issues you mentioned here about bringing more eyeballs to your eBook, site and hopefully make some more sales. Private emails... I get enough of those already. How about this idea... Line up some sponsors and make the awards a series of advertising campaigns. If a book is good enough to win a contest, the contest should be worth winning; ie, it would help to further promulgate the title. So... let the award come with three months of prominent ad space on an equally prominent website. I'd like award to be in a mag like Locus unless there's something better for the purpose. Or something like that, but not just a peel & stick gold star in the form of a graphic about which only other authors will know or care. We have to reach the readers. Anything else is fluff and bother pomp and ceremony for its own sake. Just my dime's worth on this.
