Again very well put. The only person arguing the case that I ever sympathised with was one describing a compulsion to use an author's characters to write new stories round them. No doubt there are many who feel driven.

But there is a difference between doing things in the privacy of one's own home, and trying to sell the resulting derivative. 

Perhaps the 'Remixers' would be happy to put us up for a holiday, at their expense, as part of this idea of using what belongs to others. In fact it sounds like the makings of a political philosophy... It treminds me of one that I read about... To do with sharing equally as I recall. Oh yes, I remember - that was Communism!
