If the only thing infringers were doing was sharing it with a friend, I
wouldn't actually care. They aren't. Many are sharing it in mass
infringement activities. But YES, I do see a problem. While JSTOR may well
be safe, JSTOR is akin to the blockbuster author with an established
following. No, it's not likely to hurt THEM. However, the damage to the new
author trying to build an audience is a very different thing. I will never
agree with you that we should line up with "everyone" and just give up on
our ability to make money at publishing. "Everyone" doesn't depend on IP for
their income.

In fact, even the newest pollings on the subject show that only about 20% of
polled females and 42% or so of (teen-35 y/o, if I recall correctly) YOUNG
MALES (the highest percentage found in the grouping) polled thought mass
"sharing" was okay, so maybe your definition of "everyone" is a little
skewed. It's NOT everyone...it's a vocal minority that really thinks this is
fine. They are just a troublesome vocal minority, unfortunately for anyone
that has a creative job.
