As a group, torrent users have already grown up. Compared to
HTTP, transfers finish faster, and particularly for someting
newly in demand, like recently released Linux software, the use
of bittorrent can require as little as 1% of the bandwidth of the
site sourcing the file when compared to HTTP.
They are like people who drive cars. What you care about is not
the class of people who drive cars, but people who drive cars
with something illicit in the trunk. You also care about the
people who carry those illicit things on their bicycles or in
their backpacks.
If you don't find yourself benefitting from using this protocol,
then don't use it. But please classify more carefully. Rather
than "torrent users", you might try "illicit suppliers", or
"illicit downloaders".
If a new protocol comes along that out-performs bittorrent and
everyone switches to it, then "torrent users" will vanish. But I
suspect that the difficulties you are concerned about will
remain, even through there would be no torrent users left.
