Promotion is where the sales lie.  Self-Published authors have to go out and dig for those sales.  I think, with rare exception, few sales are going to result by sitting at home and waiting for checks.  The chief marketing strategy in promotion is book signing.  Chiefly through this method, though I did many others too, I sold close to $100,000.00.  But it is tough work and I don't think I could do it again to the extend I did it for my first three books.  Long days on the road, lots of money for gas, motel, food,etc which ate heavily into receipts.
