Pragmatic view of Epubs at present

First post.  Long time lurker.

Background:
I'm an early aviation historian just completing a 12 year research project on
Forgotten Stories of Early Aviation - 1848 to World War 2.  Project morphed
into two volumes and 52 stand-alone stories as chapters.

Target completion date for pubs was 2010.  Major health and personal issues
delayed completion.  Decided in 2008 to go Epubs.  Looked at options, had
exchanges w/Smashwords in 2009  and then health intervened.

Kept up w/Epubs.  Attended recent Churchill Club (California & Silicon Valley)
event on The Future of Publishing, moderated by tech guru and author Guy
Kawasaki. Panel included a famous author, a well-known West coast bookstore
owner, a publisher, and a book distributor and CEO of Expresso - books on
demand system.
