I do remember that 1700 thing. Pretty darn important. And I hear your
point. Loud and clear. It's just that there seems to be little we can do to
make a difference once the courts have spoken. And, if the courts had gone the
other way, I doubt there would have been a bite in their ruling. So many
times these rules can't be enforced. Or even policed. I was a retailer for
years and can't tell you how many times we "won" in small claims
court--only to have "won" nothing.

It would be lovely if this community could come up with even a small way we
could protect ourselves. I'll be watching. (-:

Carolyn,

Thank you for the nice thoughts you have. As a creator and seller your
attitude is a good one. And I just wish your conclusion applied in this
matter. Unfortunately, The whole issue being discussed is well outside
the experience of the moment; both your own and that of others.

Far from there being a continuity since papyrus, the question developed
only since the later mid 15th century, with Gutenberg's invention of
moveable type, and the power of the creator over their own work did not
begin its slow advance until the Queen Anne Copyright Act of 1710. The
matter being discussed is whether the recent decision will or will not
seriously harm the creator's ability to benefit from their work. Buzz,
or any other marketing, is only of value if copyright is the law of both
each nation, and recognised jointly by each nation.
