Re: origin of "ebook"

It seems likely that the term "email" would have had to be in common
use before someone thought of the similar term "ebook". The late 1980s
sounds about right, as that's the time email's audience first began to
broaden out, what with BBSes on one side and college access to the
Internet on the other.
