And, of course, honouring "opt-out" isn't really even the point. Unlike 
web pages and blogs and so on, where there is a convention by the very 
intention of of such online matter, books have no assumption about use 
outside the wishes of the copyright owner/holder. Quite the opposite, in 
fact.

Because of that difference there  can be no right of use without 
specific permission. Which is why opt-in for books in copyright is so 
vital. I wonder what they think "do no evil" means.
