Amazon lost nearly half a billion dollars in the past three months

This appears to be a heavy emphasis on being a major player in film and 
tv series screening. We will never know how much went on screening 
rights, but the number of companies now competing suggests that prices 
to consumers are going sharply up. This may be through, with Amazon, a 
reduction in the ones available free under Prime. Perhaps that offers a 
prospect of more high budget films again.

While the share price gets the headline news, I doubt if Bezos will pay 
a lot of attention. It looks a sound manoeuvre. But I don't know whether 
this suggests a need for books in a rounded entertainment "division", or 
a down grading of emphasis on books in favour of a more lucrative 
entertainment area.

At a guess, more profits will be sought on both to start offering higher 
dividends on a regular basis.
