Quite a few people have been working on the ideas for interactive books. 
Really it is made possible by html5/css3. But few readers can deal with 
it. So the issue is market, not reluctance. Now that browsers on tablets 
are becoming the main viewing medium, and assuming the OSs and RAM ar up 
to the job, the chances of such volumes are technically increased. 
However, the question rmains one of markets, and whether they will sell 
well.

At a guess the cost of preparation of such volumes for digital viewing 
are ging to be high, the ebook size, and therefore cost considerable. 
And the question of whether, in most cases, the print text book and 
reference work remains preferred is one yet to be answered.
