Obviously, quite a few people on Pynchon-L like the idea of discussing current events, with or without an explicit connection to something Pynchon has written, apparently understanding how Pynchon's texts embrace so much of the world in which we live, and sharing Pynchon's political critical stance . Equally obvious, a small handful of people, when they aren't engaging in the same thing themselves, appear to want to stop others from engaging in this sort of conversation -- funny behavior in this free marketplace of ideas; I guess they feel if they can't get others to agree maybe they can make them stop talking.
