I wouldn't read the RC's SDB entry on page 275 as evidence that Washington is ridiculed or lanbasted in M&D. Quite the opposite in fact. In fact, what the RC says is very stuffy and prejudicial. Furthermore, the text narrator (this could be the more mature RC) is quite positive on George (top 276) and note that George seems to almost respond to the RC's stodgy description of the Virginians when he talks with Dixon about language and sliding into the ways of America--note he is talking with Dixon (a good thing I say and that they are getting on well, Dixon is a very good judge of character and he seems to like George well enough, makes him thik of the jolly pitman, now if that ain't a complimentary thought on the father (the Pitman is where Dixon learned about his own father's work and came to terms with his father's death and his own labot/vocation--surveyor_ of this nation. Anyway, can't see what Doug is talking about at all. Slaves? Where are all george's slaves? Surely TRP has plenty of historical facts at hand to make George look like a bad guy or a fool or whatever, but he's not a bad chap in M&D. __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!?
