While this idea seems nice in theory, in practice, it will be completely ineffective. So we pick a day not to fly. What are people who were planning to go home that day going to do? They're going to go home the day before, or the day after. Same deal with people who were planning to travel that day. The net result here, assuming you can get a significant number of people who would have otherwise flown that day to not fly, is a busy day at the airports, followed by an abnormally quiet day, followed by another busy day. It's the same sort of logic that was debunked in this snopes article: http://www.snopes.com/politics/gasoline/nogas.asp -Zach
