I agree with the premise. However, it's also an invitation to find existing code, that someone else wrote, and submit that. I don't know how to compensate for that. I got every job I interviewed for. Perhaps that demonstrates my presentation skills better than my coding skills. But, to me, presentation is nearly as important as ability to write code because whatever is written has to be explained to someone else. If no no other reason than passing the code off to a maintenance coder. Doubly so if you're the lead.
