I received a few e-mails about my commentary in the previous mailing=20
regarding the latest 9/11 lawsuits.  Yes, I am quite aware that=20
Americans have the unfettered right to sue whomever they want, but that=20
doesn't mean we should jump for joy about it.  These lawsuits, along=20
with the sappy newspaper memorials to the victims, take away from the=20
questions Americans, particularly the media, should be asking.=20=20

Fine, Boeing could have made a reinforced door out of titanium and rare=20
alien technology that even Superman couldn't breach.  Sure, the Port=20
Authority could have developed an invisible forcefield and placed it=20
around important Manhattan sites, and then the American Airlines and=20
United Airlines flights would have been sent to another dimension=20
instead of destroying the WTC.  Absolutely, the underpaid, understaffed=20
team of crack security experts stationed at metal detectors around the=20
country could have predicted a terrorist plot years in the making and=20
(strategically?) brushed aside by the government and intelligence=20
agencies entrusted to protect us.

The lawsuits demonstrate that for the loved ones of some of the victims,=
=20
cash is more important than justice, and as long as they get their blood=
=20
money, it doesn't matter that the government put and continues to place=20
our lives in danger to suit their own goals.

And I appreciate everyone who responded to my rhetorical question about=20
why you read my site, but you don't hold a candle to the people who=20
checked on my well-being during my absence.  You're all so sweet.  You=20
care, you really care.  My heart grew ten sizes.  But none of you sent=20
gift certificates, so you can all die.

NEW YORK - There will be no football at Mepham High School this year.

The Bellmore-Merrick school board unanimously voted to cancel the=20
season, finding that most of the players had violated the district's=20
disciplinary code by failing to report alleged sexual assaults of=20
teammates during a hazing rite last month.

"A significant majority of the Mepham football team has violated the=20
district's code of conduct," said board president Charles H. Reinhardt=20
in a prepared statement after the board reconvened from a 4 1/2-hour=20
closed-door session.

About 60 varsity and junior varsity players and five coaches spent a=20
week last month at Camp Wayne in Preston Park, Pa. During the camp,=20
three varsity players, ages 15, 16 and 17, allegedly sodomized three=20
junior varsity boys with a broomstick, pine cones and golf balls, while=20
other players looked on.

School officials and players have said the coaches did not know about=20
the incidents until one of the victim's parents reported them to the=20
school principal several days after the team had returned.

At the meeting last night, a small number of school officials waited=20
while the board met. No parents or students were present.

"I'm sorry to hear that, and that's all I'm saying," said parent=20
Dominick Festa of Bellmore, in a telephone interview afterward. His son,=

Dan, is a senior lineman new to the team this season.

At the high school earlier yesterday afternoon, one Mepham parent said=20
canceling the season would be for the best.

"For their own sake, they shouldn't be playing," the parent said as=20
Mepham students were dismissed. "Their heads aren't going to be into it.=

The other teams will harass them."

But the mother of a ninth-grade player said the district, not the=20

the problems they have is due to lack of supervision at the camp."

Iranians who wish to bypass the restrictions placed on accessing certain=

web sites by their own government, can now do so courtesy the US=20
government and the privacy company Anonymizer, according to a report at=20
SecurityFocus.=20

The US has paid Anonymizer an undisclosed sum to provide any of the two=20
million Iranians who are said to have internet access a free web proxy=20
services which is designed to circumvent the online censorship=20
instituted by Teheran, the report said.=20

Iran issued a list of 15,000 prohibited sites in May.=20

The free proxy only accepts connections from the Iranian IP address=20
space and provides instructions in Farsi.=20

The URLs for the service are publicised over Radio Farda, an American=20
station that broadcasts a mix of pop music and western news and is aimed=
=20
at Iranian youth.=20

The report said the service was similar to one which had been provided=20
to Chinese citizens by Anonymizer under a similar contract which ended=20
earlier this year.=20

KANSAS =97 Atty. Gen. Phill Kline said Monday if the state lost a sodomy=
=20
case currently before a state appeals court, Kansas marriage laws and=20
laws against sex with children would be nullified.

(That argument gets more powerful each time I hear it.)

Kline said the American Civil Liberties Union was attacking the state's=20
prohibition of same-sex marriages as well as laws against polygamy,=20
incest, bestiality and sex between adults and children. An ACLU attorney=
=20
said Kline had distorted the group's arguments and dismissed his=20
statements as "an act of desperation."

The ACLU is representing Matthew Limon, convicted in 2000 of having sex=20
at age 18 with a 14-year-old boy when both were residents of a Paola=20
group home for the developmentally disabled.

Limon was sentenced to more than 17 years in prison for violating the=20
state's anti-sodomy law, having two similar offenses on his juvenile=20
record. However, had he or the other teen been female, a prosecutor=20
would have had the option of filing the lesser charge of unlawful sexual=
=20
relations, for which his maximum sentence would have been one year and=20
three months in prison.

(But if a developmentally disabled man and a developmentally disabled=20
girl got it on in a home for the developmentally disabled, we'd all=20
laugh and say, "Man, those retards sure like to get it on.")

Kline characterized the ACLU's arguments in the case, now pending before=
=20
the Kansas Court of Appeals, as a broad constitutional challenge to=20
various Kansas laws and then attacked the organization for taking a=20
position he defined as "absurd, flawed and wrong."

"The argument in the ACLU brief is a direct assault on the institution=20
of marriage and also various criminal laws that protect children from=20
sexual exploitation by adults," Kline said during a news conference.

(If a 14-year-old is tried as an adult and convicted of murder, and he=20
gets raped in prison by a legal adult, would the adult be charged with=20
sexually exploiting a child?  Or was the little punk getting what was=20
coming to him?)

Kline said the ACLU's position was that all people, no matter their=20
sexual orientation, were protected from discrimination. He said that=20
would lead to the legalization of gay marriages -- as well as marriages=20
with multiple partners, incestuous marriages and bestiality.

Under Kansas law, any sex involving someone under 16 is illegal, no=20
matter what the context. However, the state has a "Romeo and Juliet"=20
statute that lessens the penalties if one partner is under 19 and the=20
other is within four years of that age. But that law specifically=20
applies only to heterosexual couples.

"The attorney general is not willing to talk about the case and the=20
unfairness Matthew Limon is facing," Lange said. "To try to treat this=20
case as if it's a challenge to the marriage law is an act of=20
desperation."

WASHINGTON - President Bush said Wednesday that there has been "no=20
evidence" that Iraq's Saddam Hussein was involved in the Sept. 11, 2001,=
=20
terrorist attacks, disavowing a link that had been hinted previously by=20
his administration.

"No, we've had no evidence that Saddam Hussein was involved with=20
September the 11th," the president said after a meeting at the White=20
House with lawmakers.

(I'm glad Bush waited until after invading Iraq to make this stunning=20
announcement.  Without the support of the vast number of American people=
=20
who believe that Saddam had a hand in the destruction of our innocence,=20
the government would have had to sit on its hands and wait for another=20
terrorist attack in which to passively suggest Saddam was involved.)

In stating that position, Bush clarified an issue that has long been=20
left vague by his administration. Sunday, Vice President Cheney said on=20
NBC's "Meet the Press" that success in Iraq means "we will have struck a=
=20
major blow right at the heart of the base, if you will, the geographic=20
base of the terrorists who had us under assault now for many years, but=20
most especially on 9/11."

A Washington Post poll last month found that 69 percent of Americans=20
thought it at least likely that Saddam had a role in the attacks on the=20
World Trade Center and the Pentagon.

Polling experts said Americans held that view mostly because of an=20
instinctive suspicion of Saddam, but Democrats and some public-opinion=20
experts said Bush and his aides exploited that impression by implying a=20
link.

In his May 1 speech announcing the end of major combat in Iraq, Bush=20
said that "the battle of Iraq is one victory in a war on terror that=20
began on September the 11th, 2001." He added: "With those attacks, the=20
terrorists and their supporters declared war on the United States. And=20
war is what they got."

(Yeah, take that, Saudi Arabia!)

Bush, while seeing no link between Saddam and the attacks, said=20
Wednesday that Iraq was linked to Osama bin Laden's organization.=20=20
"There's no question that Saddam Hussein had Al-Qaida ties," he said.

Some terrorism experts dispute the extent of such ties, but the issue is=
=20
not disputed as vigorously as the link between Saddam and the Sept. 11=20
attacks.

Sunday, Cheney revived the possibility that Sept. 11 hijacker Mohamed=20
Atta met with an Iraqi intelligence officer five months before the=20
attack, saying "we just don't know" whether the allegation is true.

But an FBI investigation concluded that Atta was apparently in Florida=20
at the time of the alleged meeting, and the CIA has always doubted it=20
took place.
