Some excerpts from the bizjournal article - BSA] The Catholic Health System in Buffalo, NY has also implemented a fibertech network. I have attached a couple links for you: http://www.bizjournals.com/buffalo/stories/2005/04/11/daily41.html http://www.fibertech.com/pressArchive.cfm?ID=58 Fiber optic upgrade links 40 sites The Catholic Health System has upgraded its technology systems with a $1.5 million fiber optic computer network that links over 40 sites. Doug Torre, director of information technology for the Catholic Health System, said the network replaces an outdated system. "We didn't have the capacity and resilience that the fiber optic lines can provide," he said. "This is really the ultimate you can build and really the best you can do. We're fortunate that through good planning and without raising our operating costs at all, we have an ideal solution that really makes a big difference for our organization and the community." The new network will enable additional healthcare applications, including advanced digital imaging, and will bring redundancy to the data, communications, voice and video systems. It will also give Catholic Health the highest level of security possible, Torre said. "It's a private fiber optic network, which is virtually impervious to eavesdropping. So we have the highest levels of redundancy, security and performance - the best of all possible worlds," he said. Torre's team spent three years planning the network upgrade, which he says should result in a 20-fold increase in performance. The system will also allow for future growth and better compliance with HIPPA legislation and other requirements. ------------------------------------- To SUBSCRIBE: send a blank e-mail message to [email protected] To UNSUBSCRIBE: send a blank email message to [email protected] ------------------------------------- These news items and comments are mine alone and do not necessarily reflect those of the CANARIE board or management. ----------- [email protected] www.canarie.ca/~bstarn skype: pocketpro SkypeIn: +1 614 441-9603 _______________________________________________ news mailing list [email protected] http://lists.canarie.ca/mailman/listinfo/news
