Peer-to-Peer Architectures, Grid Infrastructures, and Service-oriented
Architectures for Digital Libraries

Second generation Digital Libraries (DL) have new requirements. Firstly,
these requirements include the way to make data and specialized DL
applications available to a large set of users by means of well-defined
services. Secondly, the interaction between independent data/service
providers (peers) within a network needs to be addressed. Finally, the
computing and storage resources that are available in large networks have to
be made available in an efficient and effective way by means of grid
technology. In this talk, we address the question whether and to what extent
service-oriented architectures (SoA), peer-to-peer (P2P) systems, and grid
infrastructures can contribute to satisfy the requirements of these new DLs.
This is based on the results of a DELOS WP1 (DL Architectures) survey on
SoA, P2P, and grid.
