as a web service.  Your instrument can then be linked to another network or
instrument using popular workflow tools such as BPEL or Keppler.  It also

The Instrument2Web platform aims at best stability, portability and ease of
use to bring existing instruments in the world of web services without
excessive hardware and software programming. It comes with embedded servers
and engines as well as a suite of libraries needed to control the devices
through USB, Serial, Parallel and GPIB ports.

Overview
The price of test instruments is getting higher as they become more
sophisticated. Therefore, there is a need to share this instrument between
several users or organisations.

With the recent progress in workflow languages for web services like Kepler
or BPEL web services may be organised in both scientific workflows or
business processes. Still there is the problem of making the different
instruments into usable instruments that may be orchestrated into these
workflows. The Instrument2Web embedded service platform offers a way to
easily turn existing instruments into web services by providing both the
hardware as well as the software libraries needed to create these services.


Example Application
An example application would be to share an optical spectrum analyser
between 4 workspaces using an optical switch and optical spectrum analyser.
This example usage was graciously provided by the photonics lab of the ETS
University in Montréal, Canada.
