Please note that this document has been prepared by the planning group (www.geni.net). Why should you care? o GENI represents one of the most important and ambitious initiatives being planned by NSF CISE for its communities. o This is your opportunity to influence the GENI facility definition. Please note that this document represents just a conceptual design and is a snapshot that is expected to evolve with the best ideas from you and others in the community. The planning group as well as NSF are very interested in hearing how we can make this better and more suitable for your research experimentation needs. So don't be shy and share your best thinking. o Please do read Section 6 that outlines various components that will make up the facility and tasks that will have to be funded. If you have aspirations to help build the GENI facility (and win $$), you can see opportunities for teams with diverse set of skills and expertise -- of course a team has to be able to "deliver" real operational systems for deployment in the facility. o Please also read Section 7.1 that outlines expected process of making awards for building different parts of the facility via an open and review process with an oversight by NSF. We are a couple of years from actually starting to build the facility, but something to think and get ready for. Hope this helps. Please don't hesitate to share your input and best ideas with the planning group and/or NSF. -guru PS: I don't subscribe to some of the mailing lists and so feel free to send me an email directly. (Visit www.geni.net and see the first announcement.) This is a snapshot of an evolving document, prepared for the "Conceptual Design Stage" of the NSF process. This document will undergo significant refinement over the next year based on community feedback. Posting comments to this mailing list is a great way to get that process started.
