[The evolution of applications from the computer to the network is starting
to gain momentum, largely driven by the new Web 2.0 tools such as web
services, ruby, ajax, etc. Many people are familiar with Flickr, delicious
and other social web 2.0 applications. The following are some great
examples of new eCommerce applications using the Web 2.0. Thanks to Darcy
Quesnel for this pointer--BSA]

At Jaded Pixel, even before we began coding Shopify, we decided that we
would focus on following three simple edicts that have evolved into our
e-commerce mantra. In fact every single feature in Shopify must contribute
to the accomplishment of these edicts or it doesn't make it into the
product.

    * create barrier free e-commerce software that is easy for sellers to
use
    * give buyers a well-designed storefront and an uncomplicated check-out
    * make communities happen

      (Repeat 10,000 times)

Our whole intention in developing Shopify was to remove the barriers that
keep people from selling online. We provide a hosted service so you don't
have to deal with finding a hosting company. We have pre-integrated with
many credit card processing gateways so you don't have to figure out how to
do that or pay some programmer to do it for you. Even if you don't have a
merchant account, we offer Paypal integration. But best of all, we are a
subscription service which means you don't have spend and arm and a leg just
to find out if there is a market online for your products.

Since we all know that buyers end up paying the bills, Shopify's storefronts
are designed with two purposes in mind. The first is to give the potential
buyer and clear uncluttered view of everything that is being sold and the
second is to provide an uncomplicated check-out process that instill
confidence and trust in the buyer that their credit card order will be
processed quickly, efficiently and securely. Shopify stores don't require
all buyers to register for accounts, or show them sale item before
check-out. They just simply check them out.

Basecamp turns project management and collaboration on its head. Instead of
Gantt charts, fancy graphs, and stats-heavy spreadsheets, Basecamp offers
message boards, to-do lists, simple scheduling, collaborative writing, and
file sharing. Tens of thousands agree it's a better way. Farhad Manjoo of
Salon.com said "Basecamp represents the future of software on the Web."

Writeboard lets you write, share, revise, and compare text solo or with
others. It's the refreshing alternative to bloated word processors that are
overkill for 95% of what you write. John Gruber of Daring Fireball said,
"Writeboard might be the clearest, simplest web application I've ever seen."
