I wrote about this in my blog (below). Within about an hour I was able to get an EC2 virtual webserver up and running from my Macintosh laptop! I began using S3 a few months ago via an application (JungleDisk) that makes it look like a Mac network drive. We are now looking at what role S3 might fill in TeraGrid. It is not a solution for the high-end, but even the high-end users have more modest storage requirements for which a share-able service like S3 would be of great interest.
