New City Press and InLiquid.com are pleased to
announce the upcoming All Access: Confronting
Boundaries exhibit and event. The exhibit of various
forms of art by people with disabilities will be open
to the public between November 1 and December 20 at
the Painted Bride Art Center (223 Vine Street in Olde
City.) The book-signing event will take place at the
Painted Bride between 5:30 and 8:00 pm on Friday
November 1st.

All Access: Confronting Boundaries is a juried exhibit
reflecting on borders and boundaries that affect the
daily lives of artists and audiences. Borders not
significant to many are considerable to those with
different needs. All Access: Confronting Boundaries
intends to reveal these often invisible mechanisms,
offering artists opportunity to reflect upon the means
by which free movement is constricted and controlled,
ultimately spotlighting ways in which boundaries can
be transformed.

To celebrate this event, contributors of the
ground-breaking publication, No Restraints: An
Anthology of Disability Culture in Philadelphia, will
be on-hand to sign books and talk with the audience.
No Restraints—which was published by New City Press, a
local publishing partnership dedicated to publishing
the stories of community organizations and movements,
and Liberty Resources, advocates of independent living
and disability rights—represents a significant and
rare avenue through which the region’s community of
people with disabilities distinguishes its perspective
in the context of mainstream culture. “It is”,
according to editor and Liberty Resources development
director Gil Ott, “an organizing tool. At the core, I
think disability is a distinct cultural milieu. It
exists within the larger culture, like any minority
culture, but it’s also distinct.”  No Restraints
strives to work towards two goals: it is intended to
enhance the understanding of the both the general
public and the disability community of one of the
largest and least recognized minorities in our
society; and it hopes to define the cultural glue that
holds the community together in an effort to promote
Disability Pride.

No Restraints is comprised of art and writing by
Philadelphia residents with disabilities. The topics
they address are as distinct as the people who have
addressed them. Contributors discuss disability
activism, history of disability legislation, personal
experience, development of community arts programs for
people with disabilities, and more. The anthology
includes not only essays, but poetry, fiction,
manifestos, photography, sculpture, and painting. The
contributors are at the same time remarkable and
ordinary. They are our neighbors.

They will be available to sign copies of No Restraints
and talk about its creation on Friday November 1st, at
5:30, at the Pained Bride Art Center as part of
InLiquid.com’s InLiquid at the Painted Bride Series.
