Hello all- After a little discussion, the time of the Philly IMC General meeting for this Sunday (January 19) has been changed. It will be held at the space at 4134 Lancaster (accessible via the #10 Trolley). The new schedule is as follows: 12:00 (Noon): Steering committee/business meeting 1:00: Lunch 1:30: General meeting If we can get the general meeting to move along, we should all be safely in front of our idiot boxes just in time for the big Eagles game. -Rolando. -------- Original Message -------- Subject: [IMC-Philly] Next PhillyIMC General Meeting is January 19 Date: Fri, 10 Jan 2003 06:42:27 -0800 (PST) From: Amy Lorraine <froglessness77-/[email protected]> To: [email protected] The next monthly general meeting of the Philadelphia Independent Media Center will be on Sunday, January 19th at 4pm 4134 Lancaster in West Philadelphia. The meeting will consist of a business meeting at 4, dinner at 5, and breakout meetings starting at 5:30. Breakout groups will focus on the various projects the IMC is involved in or would like to be involved in. The topics will depend on who is present and what those in attendance are interested in. Potential topics of dicsussion are listed below. If you are interesting in becoming the media and getting involved with Philly indymedia projects, please attend the next monthly general meeting! The Independent Media Center of Philadelphia (IMC-Philly) is dedicated to building media democracy by facilitating progressive, in-depth, and accurate coverage of issues that affect all communities and by increasing community access to available technologies and information for the production and distribution of news and analysis. A two-year old not-for-profit, volunteer-based collaboration of independent media makers and press liaisons, IMC-Philly operates in solidarity with an international network of Independent Media Centers, which collectively serve to create alternatives to the profit- driven agenda of the corporate media. SCHEDULE 12:00 (Noon) Steering Committee / Business Meeting The first part of the general meeting involves the monthly budget report and any relevant financial discussions, local working group report-backs and updates, global working group updates, and any other relevant discussions (fundraising priorities, planning, etc). 1:00 Lunch Feel free to bring food and/or drink to contribute! 1:30 Breakout / Project Planning * Web features. A web-based collective keeps the center features spread updated by writing short stories to link to longer stories that users have posted. In real space, this can be a working meeting, each-one-teach-one style, where people actually look at the site and compile a feature based on good articles that have been posted. Brainstorming about how to make the center features collective more dynamic can also take place. * Web hosting on the new server. There are several IMC's (Turkey and Iran) and other media projects (The Indypendent, economichumanrights.org) in need of hosting. We need to develop a set of operational guidelines and need to expand system administration involvement (perhaps from the global tech collective). * Rewriting the PhillyIMC web site source code. * Community feedback meetings (web focus groups). The intention of this is to invole the web site users in the web site design (and potential redesign) and usability issues. * Participation in the 4134 Lancaster space. Potential projects at the space include the electrical and network wiring of the space and creating a public computer lab. * The Volta/WPEB studio transmitter link project. * Democracy Now on WPEB. This involves some tech support, fund-raising, and organizing work. * February collaboration with the Pa Anti-War Forum. We have been invited to be present on a media panel. * The sustainable business network project. We have been invited to bottomline the creation of an "independent media building block" for this network, which is chaired by Judy Wicks of the White Dog Cafe. This would involve contacting local press and could build off the research that Aileene, our intern from last spring, did. Their next meeting, tentatively scheduled for Jan 30, will focus on building a sustainabl independent media sector in Philadelphia. * Newsreal screenings. We would like to have monthly screenings of the IMC Newsreal, a monthly television series. * Fundraising coordination. We need to fundraise for a second server, as well as for the general IMC. * Other projects as there is interest!
