ATIP has now published the following report:

ATIP04.002: Financing Technology in India

ABSTRACT: The Indian industry has emerged within the past ten years from
being a marginal player in technology to become a significant participant
in high technology development. One reason for this outcome has been the
increased availability of funds for R&D. The Indian government created
special funds for technology development in the 1990s and they have
improved the Indian industry's technology base. The World Bank also
created a fund for R&D. The venture capital (VC) industry, non-existent
until the 1990s, picked up slowly and funded several high technology
companies in the late 1990s. Now, a larger number of new funds have
emerged, promising the development of new high tech start-ups in the near
future. A key feature of the technology-financing scene is the large
number of Indians in the Silicon Valley who have funded operations in
India. The present report surveys the current climate in technology
financing and provides a number of examples of ventures that have been
successful.
