Make America Great Again
The slogan ?Make America Great Again?, popularized by Donald Trump, assumes
that America had ceased to be great and needed restoration. In reality, the
United States had long held a dominant global position. The narrative that
America suddenly needed to be made great again is therefore, for many
observers, a fallacy.
After Trump?s electoral defeat, the criminal uprising that followed and the
subsequent pardons granted to those involved were widely seen by critics as
a misuse of presidential authority, even as they were portrayed by
supporters as relief for so-called ?freedom fighters.?
Another controversial proposal was the suggestion that Canada could become
the 51st state of the United States, an idea that quickly backfired and was
rejected outright. Likewise, the tariff wars launched under the banner of
economic nationalism antagonized both rivals and allies. These policies
pushed several nations toward new alignments and bilateral trade
agreements, weakening traditional partnerships.
Limited strikes aimed at crippling Iran?s ambitious nuclear programme
failed to achieve their intended objectives. The alleged attempt to abduct
Nicol?s Maduro, the head of Venezuela, also raised serious concerns about
the violation of national sovereignty.
The continuing massacre in Gaza Strip and the repeated promises of a peace
plan have yet to produce tangible results. Similarly, any claim of credit
for easing tensions between India and Pakistan offers little justification
for the Nobel Peace Prize that Trump appeared eager to obtain.
The ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine?now stretching into its fourth
year?continues without resolution, despite Trump?s confident declarations
that he could end it swiftly.
Meanwhile, the global standing of the United States appears increasingly
uncertain. The dominance of the U.S. dollar, once the undisputed pillar of
the world economy, now faces mounting challenges from emerging alternatives
proposed by new economic alliances.
For all practical purposes, the United States seems to be on a downward
trajectory as a global leader. Ironically, some analysts argue that only a
direct confrontation with powers such as China or Russia could reaffirm
America?s status as a superpower?an outcome that would be both dangerous
and unpredictable.
Despite his high-decibel rhetoric, Trump has struggled to deliver the
decisive outcomes he promised. As a result, his presidency risks being
remembered as one in which the global image of the United States reached
one of its lowest points. The current war with Iran with Israel and inkling
towards attack on Cuba has labelled USA as a reckless bully to be conferred
with the title of America is great again.A dream slogan has lost its charm

"One of Nepal?s most highly regarded journalists, the Founder Editor of
Himal Southasian, Kanak Mani Dixit, says he is 'flummoxed' by the Nepal
election results which he said are 'not just a landslide but upheaval'.
The BBC?s assessment of the result suggests that Balendra Shah and his
Rashtriya Swatantra Party could have won 182 out of 275 seats, which is a
two-thirds majority. If you wish to understand the enormity of what has
happened in Nepal and also get some sense of Balendra Shah, the new Prime
Minister, the challenges he faces, the sort of relationship he will seek
with India, China and the USA, this is an interview I suggest you should
watch."
