actually, the original sin the way it's understood in catholicism is from st. augustine (d. 430 AD.) before that and after that, there were christians who believed the original sin in a quite different way. in christian sense, children are not full of sin. and many churches the baptism doesn't take place until the person is mature. and some of the churches reject baptism rites altogether.

of course, catholicism is different from christianity. i know to non-christians, it the same thing because most of them believe "jesus the son of god" :)
