salam, actually, what is talked about is adam's future children, not his children's children :) also, the thingy is something that happened. since it starts with "wa id" or "and when," potraying as an event of the past. also, they are quoted... in unisom. the 'moral', if you will, from the verses 7:172-172 are; a) we bore witness already that god is our lord b) that even if our parents choose other paths, we still must live up to that... because we already know... since it happened. now, muslims in the traditional islam call this "fitrah"... psychologists would call it "subconscious memory" by the way, from a translator who actually spoke arabic as his first language; Recall that your Lord summoned all the descendants of Adam, and had them bear witness for themselves: "Am I not your Lord?" They all said, "Yes. We bear witness." Thus, you cannot say on the Day of Resurrection, "We were not aware of this."
