That might very well be but I believe it was  practiced back then.  In fact,
I would hope that that sort of of mutilation would be considered haraam.  I
remember the story of the man vividly, he was rounded up with many other
boys.  Some of them did not live, but he did and went on to work as a
servant for the royal family in Saudi Arabia.
