This is a multi-part message in MIME format. ------=_NextPart_000_2304_582e_32f2 Content-Type: text/plain; format=flowed salam, inas, i think that is a little bit of a stretch. i promise you, most muslims in turkey, iran and -- say -- bosnia... as well as many other places... are not effected by wahabbism. wahabbis are backed by a few rich folks... and their wealth certainly does go further than their imagination but it does not speak to/for/of the majority of the muslims. i went to indonesia recently-- and it is the biggest muslim country in the world... and you can definitely smell wahabbism in the air... but just there, not in muslim homes :) it just does not sit well with most folks. that said, wahabbism is loud, powerful and controling at "important" countries like -- say -- the united states, where they own/operate the majority of the mosques. fortunately, even here... most muslims leave their crap at the mosques ... and certainly most muslims go there for the convinience... not what is preached therein, alhamdulillah. I found the book to be overall an accurate and fair assessment of the pernicious elements of wahhabism and the havoc it has wreacked on the Islamic world. He has performed a great service by highlighting the great disparity between these TWO faces of Islam. And by doing so, has shed some much needed light on the mainstream tradition of of a tolerant Islam. If he was a Muslim, I would have accussed him of being too polite.
