Chrissie made a cryonics broadcast on 27 August 2009 on BBC Radio Essex at 0910. It can also be heard on
http://www.cryonics-europe.org/media.htm

As ever these events do not lead to a hoard of enquiries, but they could sow the seeds of interest in one or two people, and that is one or two lives saved.

Subject: Alcor's Response Team and Competence

In regard to Robert Newport's recent post, regarding Alcor's response to Russell Cheney :

The fact that a handful of Alcor's personnel were polite and unruffled, on the telephone, when being awakened at 1:00am, does nothing to prove the competence of the Alcor "emergency response " team, (unless you are limitingA "emergency response" to handling telephone calls). A Can anyone Alcor would have sent perform a good femoral cannulation, in minutes, o r wouldA someone have blundered about, for hours, maybe not even beingA capable of finding A the femorals, much less proper ly cannulating them? Would a qualified perfusionist have shown up, or might the patient have been subjected to unnecessary harm caused by the improper use of a perfusion circuit ? These are just two key questions, there are many others.

I recently asked, on Cold Filter, if Alcor currently has standby capability, or if they a re currently totally dependent on Suspended Animation, (a company that has proven itself to be grossly incompetent, in my opinion), for remote cases . Thus far, there has been no answer to that question. Judging by past comments on Cold Filter, Alcor would prefer questions be asked by telephone. Why is that? So there won't be a written record of the conversation?

Having spent nearly a decade in operating rooms, as a medical professional, IA would advise people to A notA mistake politeness, or a good "bedside manner," for competence in performing advanced medical procedures.

Thank you for posting that letter. It is wonderful to hear how effective Alcor's response is and is inspiring to those of us who work for area first responder teams.

I hope all TX area cryonicists will be attending the Texas Area First Responder Training this weekend at Steve Jackson Games in Austin. The training is free and lunch will be provided Saturday and Sunday. Aaron Drake from Alcor will be running the training which starts 10:00am this Saturday August 29th.
