In regard to the remark:

The tool being used in the photo from Alcor is not a "medical mallet," as they state in their defense. It is a ball peen hammer with a wooden handle, something that would NEVER be used in a hip, or knee replacement, (or any other surgical procedure). A medical mallet is made of surgical stainless steel, so it can be easily sterilized. For Alcor to attempt to pass that tool off as a medical mallet, only shows that they are either very ignorant, or very deceptive, (or both).

After reading Johnson's book, I made a statement that I believed everything in it. I should have limited my remarks to Alcor. After reading some of Alcor's case reports, hearing stories about a lot of their cases from people who were there, and knowing the lack of qualifications of most of their "medical" personnel, I think the incompetency and unethical behaviors are abundantly evident.

While I have heard stories of many cryonicists being survivalists and keeping supplies, I have never heard any accusations of Mr. Pizer or the Venturists being associated with the activities in Johnson's book. In his defense, I seem to recall being under the impression that he was repeating gossip he heard, (from Kunzman, the author of "Mothermelters"), when I read that part. I think Johnson was probably terrified, at the time he heard those stories, and that might have made them more believable, to him.

My apologies to Mark and Mr. Pizer, if my statement seemed to indicate I believed there was any sort of wrong-doing, on the part of the Venturists.

NO apologies to Alcor, as I feel their incompetence and unethical behavior is more than evident, not only in their past reports, but in their responses to Mr. Johnson's accusations. They are their own worst enemy. If their alleged lawsuits against Johnson go to court, judging by the media blitz I've seen, I have a feeling Johnson's publisher will be willing to fund a lot of medical and ethics experts to review those case reports and Alcor's claims in their defense statements, (like the one about a ball peen hammer with a wooden handle being a "medical mallet").

Not that I'm worried about Howard Stern's followers, but it irks me that no
one in the media has pointed out this guy has been a proven extortionist.
Why is Alcor silent?  We are a professional organization, that can easily
stand up and shut down this nonsense.  I thought this was going to just go
away, but it doesn't seem to be.

The best example I can think of is the whole Tylenol scare of  the 80s, just
come out, be factual (avoid the ted williams stuff due to confidentially)...

In a vacuum, people will believe the only idiot talking, hell I'm starting
to think there's truth to the whole can/wrench episode.  WE can act like
these are normal tools in medical procedures, but we need to stop thinking
like cryonicists and think like the media-spoon-fed public that LOVES this
kind of gossip (you know, the kind that watch the kardashians and all that
other E trash).

This could all turn very ugly quickly if we are demonized as a freak show to
the public at large, we thought the whole funeral-parlor control crap in AZ
was bad, wait until this becomes a national issue and we're banned from
these procedures in the US altogether, it will simply be called "oversight".
