In regard to the comments by Meloday and Tripper, I went looking since
it *has* been 20 years since employees of that mortuary in San
Francisco told me they just dumped HIV fluids down the drain and
government regulations change all the time.

I used these search terms 'osha regulations mortuary waste' in Google.
 The first thing that popped up was NATIONAL FUNERAL DIRECTORS
ASSOCIATION FUNERAL HOME MEDICAL WASTE  . . .

"The protocol recognizes that funeral directors discharge embalming
wastewater to publicly owned treatment works and to septic systems and
that if embalming products are properly handled, funeral homes
generally do not generate hazardous wastes regulated under RCRA"

"Embalming wastewater" is to say blood, fluid in, blood out.  It is
dated 2004.  There doesn't seem to be anything more recent.

More than once I added bleach when I was getting rid of fluids I knew
had HIV, but when you consider that every HIV patient sheds virus with
every bowel movement and that doesn't seem to cause any problems . . .
in retrospect it was a waste of bleach, the mortuary employees were
right and I was taking excessive precautions.

". . . unqualified people performing decapitations, with tools from
Sears. Unfortunately, I think that's a pretty accurate portrayal, but
much more importantly, I see no reason for the situation to remain
that way."

Ah . . . just who would be "qualified people" to perform decapitations?

I have seen (and done) this for a long time.  I can state that certain
tools from Sears (cleaned and included in the sterilized instrument
pack) are superior for this purpose in every way to any of the medical
instruments I have used or seen used.

Next week, I hope to respond to Tripper McCarthy's request for suggestions on improving cryonics organizations. I've actually made many suggestions, throughout my posts on Cold Filter, Cryonet, and my blog, but they are scattered, so I will try to organize my thoughts into a comprehensive post for my blog, with links here.

I promised myself I would "take the weekend off," from cryonics, but I couldn't resist responding to Bill Faloon's essay, on the de Wolfs' "Depressed Metabolism" blog. You can see my response, (which some will try to paint as "hostility," or as a "personal vendetta," but what is really just my perspective as a medical professional, with thought as to how cryonics activities appear to the general population), here:

You are quite right about the problems that cats can cause. They 
should not be allowed to roam at will in a medical-class facility, 
and at Alcor they are not allowed to do so. The one cat at the 
facility (Aido, my cat) is in a sequestered area. So far it hasn't 
been a problem that anybody has complained to me about.

One day I have folowwer the link to seen what it was about.
Well, it was not very diplomatics, yet I see nothing  to justify a
"reputation too low".
It may have been the first time I have rated a message to put it in the
normal cathegory.
Censors have never done anything good to any cause their or the one they
fight mostly because they have too much a narrow mind.

LJ's co-author comes from a background of writing "screenplays for hire" and doing related work in the motion picture industry. It just occurred to me that LJ picked him as the literate and well connected half of his collaboration because he wants to try to sell his story and see it turned into a Hollywood film.
