If the Demolition Man case had merit, surely Istvan Nemere  could get someone to represent him on the payment by results scheme?

There are many good sci-fi books that were never made into films, such as Larry Niven's World out of Time. 

James Blish's flying cities series would be good as well, as a sort of alternative future story. What is good about it from our point of view, is that indeterminate lifespan is taken as a matter of course for the plot, which spans millennia right up to the end of the universe.

Of course plot isn't everything, the real skill is how it is filled out. So many films these days just seem to be one continued bash-up to convey a plot that would just fill a few lines of text. We watched Bourne Ultimatum and Farscape Peacekeeper Wars on consecutive nights recently, and I would say the same about both.
