Me too.

I think every one of my hard-core kink friends bought a copy once we
gave them the one-line plot summary: `It's about a thirteen year old boy
who goes by the name cocksucker, who apprentices himself to Hogg, who
`teaches women a lesson' for a living.'  I was reading it in a hotel on
a business trip and thinking that if anyone knew what I was reading and
how I was reacting to it that I would be locked away so quickly, and so
thoroughly, that no one who knew me would ever be able to find me again.

Prior to that, when _The Mad Man_ came out, I went back to the bookstore
(back in the days of independent bookstores) and told the manager that
if anyone else came in after having read that book and asked about other
stuff the author had written, would he *please* give them my number.

Years later I was telling a friend about one of the themes: a philosophy
grad student investigating the unseemly death of a predecessor who was
going to revolutionize the field of philosophy.  Osvaldo, who taught
anthropology, insisted that I must have had the field wrong, since
something like that had happened in the field of anthropology...

As for cocksuckers vs. ball-players?  Well, you never have to explain it
-- guys either know it, or don't understand it.

What more can you say about a book where the trip to the Mineshaft goes
on for what?  Fifty pages?
