Funny, I wrote a sequel to Dhalgren a couple of years ago, then --
fittingly --- lost part of it (wrote it in two spiral-bound notebooks)
and I think the found part is similar to the running monologue on the
outer part of the pages of the original paperback edition (American
risen-George cover), lol.  It was set 20 years after the original
story ended (I put it at 1975) and has Kid & Lanya returning to the
City for a sort of reunion.  Lanya was a broadcast news reporter doing
a story on  her experiences & I based her on a real person who works
for ABC News out of (I think) the Chicago bureau.  They go in and find
several of the original characters in what I thought were logical
relationships, including a mellowed-out Tak Loufer involved with Denny
and the hippie commune developed by Millie into a co-op farm that
keeps people fed.   At one point in time some visitor brought AIDS in
to the community and it affected some characters. I need to type that
sucker up and post it sometime...
