I enjoy the academic play with words, it's fun but bullshit.  I know too many people who write so bogged down in jargon and rhetoric that they are saying nothing and I'm not sure if they even know what they are saying: it's sort of like learning a new language, like Klingonese.

The erotic body would be a text, story, novel that focuses on body parts and issues -- for instance, HOGG's big hairy body against teh boy's young nubile body.  Delany often describes bodies, in erotic content, in extreme detail, and he has a preference for the grotesque, burly men, etc -- so, in Dark Refections, does he give attention to the type of men he prefers?

A critque of the object probably stems from Baudrillard's The System of Objects, which was his critque on consumerism -- that is, the things we like to buy in malls, these objects.

So -- take a new car, a new house, and what that means to you, and how it changes your social status, and critique that thing, try to find out why it changes you, why it is needed, or isn't...

I am writing an essay called "The Vanishing Body of the Blonde TV Image": -- about Paris Hilton's body vanishing into the netherworld of the LA County jail, Anna Nicole's body vanishing "on ice," and Natallee Holloway's body vanishing on Aruba, and how the media, and we as watchers, become fascinated with their vanished bodies.  Look, I was asked to write on the subject... ;)
