It looks like there was a short (13 page) article published about Delany
last year in the journal 'American Literary History'.

A Most Ambiguous Citizen: Samuel R. "Chip" Delany
Smith Am Lit Hist.2007; 19: 557-570

All I have is the citation as reading the full text of the article online
requires either money or access:

http://alh.oxfordjournals.org/cgi/content/long/19/2/557

The "most ambiguous citizen" seems to refer to Delany's own quote from
somewhere in The Motion of Light in Water, calling himself 'That most
ambiguous of citizens, a writer'.

I would be interested in reading the full text if anyone has access. If
not, I may do some sleuthing in our local university library when I have a
few minutes (which won't be anytime soon, alas).

Cheers,
