Anyone who hates himself and what he writes and those who read it this much doesn't deserve any audience, never mind our chip. I'm pleased to see Delany is out and about and sticking up for himself - but there does seem to be a strong ironic overtone to the whole thing. Is this Wilson's way of preening and saying a famous man who can write came to my reading? Oh, I've just seen everyone else's comments. One basic rule of journalism in this country: never use irony. Only works of genius such as Jonathan Swift's A Modest Proposal can carry it off. All other uses risk unaware readers taking it at face value.
