Hello all,<br><br>This is just a quick introduction of myself and perhaps even a refresher of who's (in)active in this group, so we can all build a rapport! <br><br>Facts: My name is Noah, a masters student of Art/Religion at the Graduate Theological Union in Berkeley CA, from the Philadelphia region.<br><br>I am beginning to collect and weld/meld together the elements for my M.A. thesis, and it will be focusing <span style="font-style:italic;">primarily</span> on Delany's Dhalgren in various ways. I have recently worked on several facets of the novel in a more restrictive, case-study manner: the function, discourse, and ultimate rhetoric of the monastery (especially as related to shifts away from Christian esotericism and towards NRM communal living in the 1960s); how Dhalgren for
egrounds itself as a subjective force and a passive object in SF canonization and tropes; and most importantly, beginning to explore the potentials of a dialgoue between process philosophy/theology (Whitehead) and literary theory (Butler, Delany, Foucault). <br><br>More a mouthful there than I intended! I look forward to engaging with all of you. There are several projects I've either started or contemplated that I would love to discuss - one is a crude "concordance" of various motifs, structural patterns, and symbols in Dhalgren, (assuming I receive a PhD in the next few decades, my dream project is to publish an Annotated Dhalgren, similar to the one for Ulysses). I also have been plumbing the interwebs for intertextualities - art, photography, music, homages, etc.
