Like you pay for roads, schools etc. I am not very familiar with how that works in Europe, but in the US, that is not how it works. Most of the money for SS and MC is paid by working people to support current retirees. Unfortunately, the demographics and costs are such that those paying now will not receive anything close to what they paid in, many years down the road when they are finally able to retire.
