Brazil

Lula is president of one of the largest countries in the world, and has an 84% approval rating.  From what I have heard (and Alberto will correct me) he is a working class hero, and support is strictly on the basis of class.  Workers and poor people are with him, the middle-class brasileiros are not.  

They say it is because of the corruption in his government and some even call Dilma a terrorist. The real reason is because Lula and the PT represent the people who wash their dishes and windows, clean their streets, and do the heavy lifting in the growing Brazilian capitalist economy. The gulf between classes is wide.

The PT has not led the working people in revolution, and it has made some unfortunate compromises with the IMF and World Bank.  The PT is the party of the workers, not on the basis of nationalism, or anti-imperialism, but because of class. 

The bourgeois and petit-bourgeois of Brazil feel less hostility to the U.S. and to world imperialism than they do toward the workers and poor people of their own country.  Brazilian workers are not inspired to fight against the IMF, World Bank, and other agents of imperialism as much as against their enemy at home, the boss class; the United States is far away.
