I'm not sure how "science strikes another blow against idiots" in this case - some people really don't like having the ending spoiled, and spoiler alerts just give people a choice whether or not to find out.

Personally, I hate knowing what happens the first time I see a film. Sure it might be more satisfying the second time, but given the choice I'd rather not know.
