Book ID; anyone know this one?

"Science Fiction (adult or young adult, I think) Book has a male and female main characters that were separated by the female's aunt when she found out the girl was given a matching crystal by the male. The girl can "comb" sickness from animals and people with her hair wrapping around the living creature. The man can hold an item and "comb" its life history knowing if it is a genuine artifact or if it's a fake. I read this book in the late 90's/early 2000. Other facts: The aunt is the ruler of their planet and wears big crystals/gems on her eyes that control the planets populations emotions keeping them from going into madness. The male and females crystals are linked and he knows when she is dying and rushes across the galaxy to save her from the planet he was exiled from by taking command of the quasi brain spaceship he is second in command of and forces (with his mind) the quasi brain to make it work better and gives the brain the coordinates to the planet where the girl is. Both female and male has hair that is white or clear that moves on its own. The female heals a creature and it becomes her protector. The creature is a powerful and splits itself into so both male and female can be protected. They go back to the planet and even tho the "eyes" the aunt wore are damaged, both save the people of the planet by "dreaming" of what they want the planet to look like and the people of the planet add to the dream and come out of the madness they fell into. I loaned this book out after I only read it once and the person I loaned it to let someone read it and they lost it. I have been on many websites trying to find someone who can help me remember this title, but I have not had any luck in the last ten years. I do not remember what the cover looked like. I do remember it was a paper back and it was a thick one.<javascript:questionSubmit(8)>"
