This really makes me think of The Gate to Women's Country, although it has been a while since I read that and the fit does not seem perfect. My memory had the protagonist going on a trip where she is raped by the man who was suppose to be in love with her. After which she and the man are both attacked and captured by Holylanders, a very patriarchal group. I agree with you that Tepper is a likely choice, or perhaps someone inspired by Tepper.
