Interesting article! Here's what surprised me:

"Probably the best-known icon from the series is the much-desired drug
spice, followed by the giant sandworms that produce it."

I would have thought the sandworms were even more iconic than the spice.
They're just so amazing as an image. I tend to think of them way sooner
than spice when I remember reading Dune. Just me?
